Just as a lot of us were getting ready to call it a night the NBA wakes up and a few major trades were made, including this blockbuster between the Pelicans and Bucks.
With Giannis likely being a free agent at the end of the year the Bucks are going all in this season. And boy did they put all of their chips into the center of the table. It wasnt to get a superstar, no Jrue Holiday. Now dont get me wrong, Jrue Holiday is good, but is it worth giving up THIS much? Heavens no!
Actually, to prove my point. Here’s a surface level look at both guys
If you thought Jrue Holiday was “Player A” you would be correct, and he’s probably slightly better given the situation that he was in vs Bledsoe. But honestly I dont think I would have given up more than one first round pick for him. Let alone THREE and two pick swaps.
I will say if Giannis does sign the super max and stays in Milwaukee then its worth it, but if he doesnt and Jrue walks then you just set your franchise back a decade after this year.
For the David Griffin and the Pelicans…
Bledsoe is still a pretty good point guard in the NBA and they can probably flip him for more picks if they aren’t in the playoff race around the trade deadline. They already have Zion and Ingram now throw in all of their picks and a likely ability to attract another star to play with Zion and Ingram and the Pelicans are going to be a title contender before we know it.
Anyway, there is a lot more to come in the NBA this week, and boy does the world need it. There’s something about the NBA off-season that makes the world feel normal again and boy do I love it.
Also, btw, I wonder what they could be cooking up next.
