No fans at the RAC this season is a major bummer

What’s up guys, my name is Stanzo. I’ve been a big Front Office fan for awhile now, so I’m psyched to contribute. I’m mostly gonna be writing Big Ten basketball, and maybe some NBA here and there. As both a Rutgers alum and a Knicks fan, my basketball fandom has caused me nothing but pain for most of my life. That is, until the Steve Pikiell era began at Rutgers.

Rutgers instantly became a really entertaining basketball team to watch under Pikiell. They were always competitive, and had a few statement wins each year. Then last season, it all culminated. 20 wins for the Scarlet Knights, and what surely would’ve been their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1991. Unfortunately, the pandemic cancelled March Madness altogether. I have no doubt in my mind Pikiell will lead them to this season’s tournament.

That pandemic, however, will still be a factor for the upcoming season. The Big Ten will not allow fans, at least for the start of the season. It’s a shame for everyone, especially my Scarlet Knights. Jon Rothstein had a blog the other day titled 10 teams that will miss a true home court advantage during the 20-21 season. He listed Rutgers first (he also said “in no particular order” but let’s just pretend I didn’t see that).

The RAC is a magical place. It seats 8,000 fans, and gets louder than you can imagine. Rutgers truly gave meaning to the term “home court advantage” last season, going 18-1 at the RAC. Having attended a good chunk of those games, I’m really gonna miss that unbelievable basketball atmosphere in 2020-21.

By the way, if you wanna see Pat & CJ’s interview with the man who hit the shot in the above video, you can check that out right here:

Hopefully, we’ll be able to attend sporting events in packed arenas somewhere in the near future.

To end on an unrelated note, while I was researching the Big Ten’s plan for fans this season, I came across this SB Nation blog throwing some shade on my team:

That’s just entirely too many question marks and exclamation points for losing to a team that did this in your so called “fortress”

I have nothing against Purdue, but the guy who wrote that may have to become one of my enemies. You don’t make too many friends in the blog game.

Excited to get this going. Tweet me @ncostanzo24 to tell me what kind of content you’d like to see, call me an idiot, or just about anything in between.

Rutgers alum & avid Yankee fan. Painfully addicted to Twitter. I tell terrible jokes 95% of the time, the other 5% are probably above average.
